Rock Climbing is a very thrilling sport. However, some people don’t see the excitement. What could be so great about climbing a wall?
- Fitness/Cross Training
Rock climbing is well-known to help build muscles all over the body. It strengthens the legs and grip. This is very helpful for martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts.
- Flexibility
It takes some stretchy muscles to get your heel above your shoulders. Of course most climbing techniques are not that extreme, but they will definitely promote flexibility.
- Patience/Mental
It takes patience and mental endurance to find your way to the top of a rock wall. About 26 feet off the ground is when I usually find myself stuck. I have to solve the wall as if it was a puzzle. This pushes me to try new techniques and think outside the box.
- Competition/Entertainment
Rock climbing can be competitive , but it can also be laid back. There are many schools that compete in America, like Tennessee. Others simply do it for entertainment. For some, it can be addictive, because of the adrenalin that results from pulling ourselves off the ground and onto a wall.
- Safety
With many precautions from rock climbers, they have made this sport safe. Most indoor climbing centers have high-tech equipment, ensuring the safety of all who want to attempt this sport.
This is clearly a beneficial and safe form of entertainment. So next time you want an adrenaline rush, consider going for a climb.
