Air is one of the most elegant animes I have ever seen; and one of the saddest. This romance anime was made in 2005. It was based off of a visual novel with the same title. In modern Japan by the sea, there is a small town which the main character, Yukito, stumbles upon in his travels. He is looking for ‘The Girl in the Sky’, someone his mother told him about before she died. In this town, he meets an odd girl named Misuzu. They become acquainted and meet other characters that each have their own stories. Every story is heart breaking, yet still endurable because of the occasional humor that lightens up the show. A great ratio. Though be warned, the plot has been known to be rather complex. Some find it intriguing. Others become confused, understandably, because not all events are explained.
The animation cheers up the show as well and draws you in with its beauty. It was done by Kyoto Animation; a company with other marvelous works like Kanon (2006) and Free!. The music is not as noticeable but is still pretty and fits the show. And since this anime has great English voice actors like Vic Mignogna and Monica Rial, I suggest the dubbed version.
Air is rated TV-14 for violence and gore, and brief partial nudity. You can find out more at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0940874/parentalguide?ref=ttql8
This anime is filled with heartache, romance, and tragedy. I highly recommend it and give it 8 out of 10 stars.
