Digimon Tamers Review

By: Kaiya Irion

Digimon Tamers is the third season of the Digimon series; an anime that began in 1999. The Tamers season was written in 2001 by Chiaki J. Konaka. The plot, characters, and setting in this season are separate from the rest of the show.

This season is set in modern Japan, where Digimon is just a game, until a boy named Takato accidently creates his own digimon, Guilmon. Apparently he isn’t the only one this happens to. He runs into a girl named Rika, and her digimon, Renamon; then meets Henry with Terriermon. Terriermon is one of the main reasons I watched this show. His cuteness is irresistible! Especially with his catch phrase “Momentai” which I think means “Don’t worry”. He makes the show.

Digimon_TamersAlong with all the utter cuteness of Digimon Tamers, there are some complex ideas that tie in to a similar theory from Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game series. A theory called the Philotic Web, something that connects the universe together by non-physical strings. In this series, it connects different dimensions; the real world and the digital (where all the digimon originate). Though, it does not go into much detail because of the intended child audience.

The animation in the show is average and does what it needs to for the show. And while the music in Tamers is usually unnoticeable, it can range from cheesy to annoying in some cases; one of the low points. The American voice acting on the other hand is impressive. The cast contains famous actors and actresses such as Steven Blum, Bridget Hoffman, Steve Staley, and Mellissa Fahn. For this reason, I suggest watching it dubbed.

Digimon Tamers is not rated. It contains brief/implied romantic relationships, violence with minimal blood and no gore. Some scenes at the end may be disturbing to younger viewers because of some depressing themes. Find out more at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295080/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

Digimon Tamers was written for kids but it can be enjoyable for all ages; especially if you enjoy adorable, little digimon and witty humor. I love this show. I rate it 7.5 out of 10 stars.
