Underrated Must Watch Movies

Some art is never appreciated as much as it should be. Sometimes it is never even found. A few of these movies, though underrated, have unique qualities that make them a must-watch.

  1. Push’ by Paul McGuigan and David Bourla- Push is a highly entertaining film. It takes on similar aspects of the Marvel Universe; a small group of people with supernatural abilities attempting to escape from an organization that created them in the first place. The plot line isn’t as plain as it sounds however. The movie introduces multiple parties, good and bad. And sometimes those people don’t know which side they’re on; and how could you, with mind control and Watcher’s tripping you up? Music, the setting in Hong Kong, characters, and effects tie into the theme of the story and truly makes it all complete.
  2. Sky Crawlers’ by Mamoru Oshii, Hiroshi Mori, and Chihiro Ito- This one is slow to start, but it is worth the wait, if you

know what’s going on. The movie starts out with a fighter pilot landing at his new station. The story is vague about the war he is fighting, where he came from, ect. And then it gets really interesting… Spoiler! Sorry, but I can’t tell you. You need to see it for yourself. It does finally explain itself in the end, so don’t let that disinterest you.

  3. Chronicle’ by Josh Trank and Max Landis- Another sci-fi, but this one is different; three boys develop superpowers while finding a mysterious object

underground, yet it is never explained how that gave them their abilities. Instead, the story explores how it affects their morals. Human nature takes over, leading up to the heartbreaking finale. Just a warning however, the entire movie is highly suggestive, so I suggest viewing the Parent Guide.

  4. Terminator: Genisys’ by Alan Taylor, Patrick Lussier, James Cameron, and Gale Anne Hurd- This movie was very intriguing, mostly because it didn’t follow the original story! And somehow, I still loved it! The time change was very well explained, the characters fit well, and it definitely lived up to the original. Good movie.
  5. Transcendence’ by Wally Pfisher and Jack Paglen- I have always had problems with AI movies (excluding Terminator) because the plot is very

unrealistic. Computers think exponentially faster than humans. A second in our time could be years, even decades to a computer, depending on it’s calculating speed. The faster it thinks, the more it experiences in a certain amount of time, making time pass slower in the AI’s perspective. And if the AI was connected with the internet, it could potentially control the entire world as soon as it was uploaded. This movie takes in account both of these facts and shows how a man’s mind, transferred into a computer, affects the world with his nearly unlimited time and knowledge.

Hopefully, you will enjoy these as much, or more than, I did. As always, everyone is welcome to comment their own favorites below.
